Hugo Chagnon (né en 2003 à Ho Chi Minh Ville, Vietnam) est un artiste visuel basé en France, où il a grandi et vit depuis l’enfance. Il développe une pratique hybride autour du collage photographique numérique et de la peinture, nourrie par un intérêt profond pour la mémoire, le souvenir, les formes sensibles du quotidien et la construction d’espaces.
Son travail part de prises de vue personnelles, fragmentaires, qu’il assemble en images panoramiques déformées. À travers le montage et la superposition d’espaces photographiques, il cherche à déjouer la logique du réel pour produire des images ouvertes, instables, dynamiques. Le collage devient pour lui une proposition d’une vision multiperspective, proche de notre perception réelle du monde, qui est mobile, fragmentée et continue. Un geste d’urgence qui confronte des temporalités, des lieux et des récits (hétérogènes). Ces images sont ensuite parfois traduites en peinture, dans un ralentissement du processus et une réinvention de la matière.
Sa démarche explore une nostalgie active mais également une esthétique du rêve (dreamcore), loin du repli, pensées comme une manière d’interroger le présent à partir de ce qui a été vécu.
Il est actuellement étudiant à l’École Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Bourges (France), où il poursuit ses recherches plastiques et théoriques autour de l’image, du paysage construit, et des formes visuelles de la mémoire.
