This work is a piece of my own soul, a map of a place that no longer exists in reality, yet remains more real than anything else: our childhood home.

I chose to paint this labyrinth not as a house of walls and doors, but as a house of feelings and echoes. The three figures you see are my siblings and I. We are caught in a beautiful, "vicious" cycle—a loop of time where we are forever children, forever running, forever together.

For me, memory isn't a straight line; it's these staircases. We run up and down, over the "jackets" of our youth—symbols of the protection and the identity we wore back then. I used these vibrant blues, yellows, and purples because that is how childhood feels when you look back: it’s bright, it’s pulsing with life, and it’s slightly blurred by the mist of nostalgia.

Even though the paths seem to lead everywhere and nowhere, there is no fear in this maze. There is only the rhythmic pulse of kinship. We are "trapped" in this cycle, yes, but it is the most comforting trap in the world—the knowledge that no matter how many years pass, in some corner of my mind, we are still there, playing in those corridors, interconnected forever.

I invite you to look at these stairs and find your own steps. To remember the people who ran beside you when the world was just a series of colorful levels waiting to be explored.

About the Artist

Elisavet Synodinou (b. Nov 12, 2002)
I am a contemporary artist currently in my final year of studies at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA). My practice is deeply rooted in conceptual art, where I use painting and drawing as my primary languages to explore the fluid boundaries between space, memory, and kinship.
My artistic identity has been profoundly shaped by the legacy of Jannis Kounellis and the Arte Povera movement. Drawing inspiration from Kounellis’ raw energy and his focus on the human condition, I treat the canvas not just as a surface, but as a vessel for history and presence. I am fascinated by how materials and forms can carry the weight of lived experience, transforming a simple image into a psychological map.
In my work, I invite the viewer to navigate the "vicious cycles" of nostalgia and the architectural complexity of our shared histories. My compositions, often featuring non-linear perspectives and a vivid palette, reimagine the "childhood home" as an infinite loop of motion and emotion. For me, painting is a way to bridge the gap between the physical space we once inhabited and the intangible memories that continue to define us.
At 23, I strive to create art that functions as a living dialogue with the past. Whether through my paintings or my immersive installations, my goal is to capture the perpetual motion of identity and the enduring, often labyrinthine, bonds of family.
