About the Artist

Born in 1989, Ian a sculptor dedicated to the tactile and timeless medium of wood. My practice is deeply rooted in the natural landscape of Kenya, where I draw inspiration from the raw, organic forms of the trees that provide my material. By transforming solid timber into intricate sculptures, I aim to bridge the gap between the earth’s natural heritage and the contemporary spaces we inhabit.
My work explores the intersection of structural form and symbolic resonance. I view each piece as a dialogue between the inherent character of the wood, its grain, knots, and history and the precise vision of the artist. This process is often informed by an interest in the underlying patterns and rhythms of the world, seeking to imbue every sculpture with a sense of grounded energy and balance.
Based between the vibrant cultural pulse of Nairobi and the expansive horizons of Kajiado, my work is crafted with the corporate and international collector in mind. I strive to create pieces that serve as more than just objects of beauty; they are enduring expressions of craftsmanship designed to resonate within modern architectural environments and private collections alike.
Key Themes in the work;
• Materiality: A focus on the diverse textures and structural possibilities of sustainably sourced wood.
• Connection to place: Incorporating the aesthetic and environmental spirit of the Kenyan landscape
•Balance and symbolism: creating a visual language that feels both ancient and modern, rooted in intentionality.
